Region. Audit of employment lands

The Department of Planning and Infrastructure is undertaking a two-stage audit of the zoned, undeveloped employment lands to identify reasons the land is undeveloped. The first stage audited 20 major precincts covering 3570 hectares of undeveloped zoned land, of which 2970 hectares (83 per cent) is not yet connected to water and sewer services. Most of those precincts are in Western Sydney near where major population growth is expected.

North West. Driverless trains

The NSW government has investigated running driverless trains on the $8.5 billion North West Rail Link, in a move that could spark tensions with transport unions over potential job cuts, according to The Australian Financial Review.

North Ryde. Uni ranked highly

Macquarie University has been named Australia’s highest-ranking university in two reports published recently. Both QS and Times Higher Education placed Macquarie first among the nation’s universities under 50 years of age. Internationally, the QS ‘Top 50 Under 50’ ranked Macquarie 16th in the world, while the Times Higher Education ‘100 Under 50’ rating placed Macquarie at joint-33rd globally.The university said although the rankings use different methods to produce their results, both agreed that Macquarie led the nation’s modern universities in areas including research, teaching, innovation, graduate employability and international outlook.

Sydney Olympic Park. New substation

Ausgrid’s new zone substation in Bicentennial Park has been approved for construction and work is planned to start this month.. The substation will facilitate future development at Sydney Olympic Park, as proposed under Sydney Olympic Park’s Master Plan 2030 and will allow Ausgrid to meet increasing electricity demand from the area’s growing business and residential community.

Sydney Olympic Park. 750 employeesl

Over the next few months staff numbers up to 750 are tipped to move into the Lion Group’s recently completed building. The Lion Group has fully leased GPT’s 12,200-square-metre project, at 5 Murray Rose Avenue, Homebush, on a 12-year term.

Parramatta. Educational establishment

MCA Architects has applied to Parramatta City Council to undertake alterations to a heritage-listed, two-storey building at 211 Church Street, in the Parramatta CBD, for its occupation as an educational establishment, which is understood to be the University of New England. Estimated cost of the work $669,900.
