Blue Mountains. Community Cabinet meets

NSW Premier & Minister for Western Sydney, Barry O'Farrell, said his Community Cabinet would be held, at Springwood, Monday, March 19. A discussion will be held on Regional Action Plan for Western Sydney. The plan will align with NSW 2021, the state’s ten-year plan to rebuild the economy, return quality services, renovate infrastructure, strengthen our local environment and communities, and restore accountability to government.

Penrith. Forum on transport

Transport NSW is calling for submissions to help in determining the best way to deliver transport services and infrastructure in greater Sydney and regional NSW over the next 20 years. The submissions process is part of a wide consultation program which includes forums with key stakeholders A forum will be held in Western Sydney, on Monday April 23,at St Mary’s Community Centre, corner Great Western Highway & Mamre Road, St Marys from 6pm - 8pm. Submissions are due by April 27

Bankstown. Quickstep wins contract

Advanced manufacturer, Quickstep, has a contract valued between $75 million and $100 million to make carbon fibre wing flaps for C130J Hercules military transport aircraft. Quickstep is currently relocating its operations from Western Australia and establishing a state-o- the-art carbon fibre manufacturing facility at Bankstown Airport.

“This is a major win against manufacturers from around the world to become the sole supplier of carbon fibre wing flaps for C130J Hercules military transport aircraft,” NSW Minister for Trade and Investment, Andrew Stoner, said. The Hercules contract will be Quickstep's second major aerospace win for its new Bankstown facility.

Parramatta. Stadium Trust demise

Businessman, Jim Taggart, and CEO, of the Sydney Olympic Park Business Association, Karen Grega, are two members of the Western Sydney Local Venues Council, which has replaced the Parramatta Stadium Trust. Other members are Craig Gallagher, Mark Birkinshaw and Ern Phang. The NSW government established Venues NSW to manage government owned sporting and entertainment venues in the Hunter, Western Sydney and Illawarra.

Parramatta. Application refused

Parramatta City Council has refused a DA for the demolition and construction of a 10-storey mixed-use development, at 5 Hunter Street, in the Parramatta CBD, containing commercial tenancies and 46 residential apartments.

Penrith. Women of the West

The University of Western Sydney has named Lea Hicks, co-owner and GM, of the Hix Group Pty Ltd, in Penrith, as the winner of its Woman of the West Award for 2012. Christa Anthony, a full-time counsellor and case manager with the Penrith Women’s Health Centre and founder of Studio Dance NSW was named Young Woman of the West.
