Yennora. Decision deferred

Holroyd Council has deferred a decision to allow Alcoa Rolled Products, at Yennora, to double the amount of hydrogen chloride emitted from its rotary furnace, but the increase, in line with NSW regulations, has been given the green light by the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage, and is recommended by council officers. Yennora produces aluminium sheet for use in food and beverage cans and bottle screw caps. Alcoa has two operations at Yennora – an aluminium flat rolled products facility and Australia’s largest aluminium recycling facility. Around 70 per cent of the aluminium ingots used in the rolling process are produced on site during the recycling process. The Yennora plant has operated for more than 40 years
