Auburn. Costco accuses Coles and Woolies

Costco, the third-largest retailer in the US and the ninth biggest in the world, which has a store in Melbourne and is constructing its second Australian store in Auburn. has accused domestic heavyweights Woolworths and Coles of attempting to slow its expansion in Australia by fighting new developments at every opportunity. Coles and Woolworths rejected the claims, describing them as ''baseless''.

Castle Hill. Leda buys property for $14 million

Leda Holdings has bought a property from ANZ Specialist Asset Management, in Castle Hill, for $14 million, which includes 13,825 suqare metres of building space over a two-storey office and warehouse estate that is 43 per cent vacant. Leda’s industrial property portfolio includes interests in Rydalmere Business Park, Macquarie View Estate in Macquarie Park and Riverside Business Park in North Ryde.

Auburn. CEO wins small business award

Christopher Teng, CEO, of Up-Lift, won the Small Business September 2010 Small Business Flourish Pack competition, valued at $17,400. Up-Lift is an industrial work platform, lift and elevator company employing five people in Auburn.

Orchard Hills. $12.3 million facility refused

The NSW Government has refused planning approval for a $12.3 million landfill and waste recovery facility at a former quarry site at Orchard Hills Minister for Planning, Tony Kelly, said the proposal by Dellara Pty Ltd to construct and operate the facility had been carefully assessed but had been deemed unacceptable. The facility was designed to accept up to 450,000 tonnes of waste each year. “I’ve concluded that the public benefit of an additional resource recovery facility does not outweigh the impacts that the proposal would have on the surrounding [residential] community,” he said

Leura. Receivers supervise operations

The Leura Gardens Resort is being traded under the supervision of the receivers and managers, John Melluish and George Georges, of Ferrier Hodgson. The property was owned by a company called Bluridge Global Pty Ltd linked to business couple Michael Kwok and Helen James, who ran the York Fairmont Resort. Less than six months later, the Fairmont Resort is rapidly regaining its reputation for excellence It recently changed its brand name from York to Adore and is currently for sale, according to the Blue Mountains Gazette..

The Hills. Best business locations

The Invest Sydney Hills Group, a collection a local business professionals, is working with the Hills Shire Council to identify the best business locations in the area. Council’s economic development manager, John Dean, said it was part of the council’s plan to cut residents commuting time by allowing them to work closer to home.
