Region. Two tier housing market

Mortgage-belt markets such as outer-Western Sydney, Blacktown and the central coast have seen house values increase by less than 9 per cent, whereas values in the lower north shore, inner Sydney and the eastern suburbs have recorded capital gains of more than 20 per cent over the past year. Tim Lawless, research director, of RP Data, said in the Sun-Herald the release of housing finance data from the ABS this month had driven the divide even further in Sydney’s two-tier market.

Region. Workcover thanks local firms

Workcover NSW has acknowledged the assistance of Western Sydney companies in its 2009 Mentor Program. The companies acknowledged include Formula Chemicals, Toohey’s Pty Ltd, Industrial Galvanisers, Scotts Refrigerated Freightways, Inghams Enterprises and the Nursery and Garden Industry NSW and ACT

Canley Heights. Top gaming venue

National Leisure and Gaming’s El Cortez Hotel, in Canley Heights, has taken out, for the third consecutive year, the top position in the rankings of NSW venues by gaming turnover during the March quarter. The company’s Eastwood Hotel and the Cabramatta Club Hotel were placed in the top 10. The company has more than a dozen venues in Western Sydney.

Region. UWS calls for EOI

The University of Western Sydney has called for expressions of interest (EOI) in the delivery of the UWS Aspire Future Leaders Program, which delivers leadership and related skills to a selected group of undergraduate students. The program is designed to provide skills, knowledge and experiences to better prepare students for post graduation management and leadership roles in their careers. UWS is seeking to identify suitably qualified parties to participate, via a competitive process, to present components of the program in 2011-2013. EOI close on June 6.
