Penrith. Delegation to China and Korea

The Penrith Business Alliance will coordinate a business delegation to accompany the Mayor Kevin Crameri, on an international visitation program to China and Korea, in October. PBA chairman, Paul Brennan, said the objective was to establish a framework for ongoing economic cooperation creating business-to-business opportunities, education, business, tourism and collaborative research. The delegation will comprise local businesses, which have an interest in Asia and leading learning organisations to explore opportunities for education and collaborative research in key areas including green industries.

Region. Urban growth summit

Australia’s first Urban Population Growth Summit will be held at the Casula Powerhouse, on July 20. Clr Alison McLaren, president, of the Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils (WSROC), which will host the event, said Western Sydney was the obvious site to hold a summit of such national importance because it was one of the areas which would be most affected by future population growth and its associated issues

Region. Attracting professional services

An initiative in the NSW Government Response to the Western Sydney Jobs Summit, held in February, is a Professional Services Business Attraction Strategy to attract professional services, such as, legal, accounting, and design to Western Sydney by highlighting benefits and growth opportunities of the region. RDA Sydney, based in Parramatta, will run a series of round tables and workshops with key players including company directors, industry groups, professional associations and chambers of commerce to identify and address barriers, including adverse perceptions that prevent business services from locating in Western Sydney over the next six months.

Penrith. Boost for health services

Part of an industry attraction strategy for life science by the NSW government includes the development of the Penrith Health and Education Precinct, around Nepean Hospital, to attract health professionals, health businesses and research facilities. This includes companies in the development and implementation of skills supply, infrastructure, research and regulatory requirements. The strategy also includes the establishment of a Penrith Health and Well Being Innovation Network of local firms and entrepreneurs to collaborate on growing opportunities in health and wellness. This was an initiative included in the NSW Government Response to the Western Sydney Jobs Summit, held in February.

Region. 100 potential manufacturing leads

The NSW Government and the fourteen local councils in Greater Western Sydney have identified over 100 potential manufacturing leads for business expansion and relocation to the region. Industry & Investment NSW will actively pursue all these leads, using the Western Sydney Business Employment Fund, where appropriate, to attract these firms to Western Sydney over next 12 months. This was an initiative included in the NSW Government Response to the Western Sydney Jobs Summit, held in February.

Region. Mentoring for manufacturers

An initial pilot conducted by NSW Government and Enterprise Connect will see 15 Western Sydney manufacturers mentored by a business specialist to improve their recruitment practices and develop better management skills are delivering mentoring support for SMEs to improve their management skills and recruitment practices to enable greater employee retention in Western Sydney. It will be launched in June. This is an initiative included in the NSW Government Response to the Western Sydney Jobs Summit, held in February.

Sydney Olympic Park. $30 million project

The Department of Planning has on public exhibition a DA for alterations and additions to the RAS Exhibition Hall. The estimated cost is $30 million.
