Bradcorp donates a chair at UWS

Sydney developer, Bradcorp, has donated a chair be known as the Peter Brennan Chair of General Practice, at the UWS School of Medicine, made possible by the donation of Peter Brennan, CEO, of Bradcorp, to help address the critical shortage of GPs in Greater Western Sydney.

Industry capability profile document launched

The Minister for Small Business, Joe Tripodi, launched the Greater Western Sydney Industry Capability Profile, at the Innovation Technology Showcase, part of the 2008 Western Sydney Manufacturing Week, at Sydney Olympic Park. The document covers industries such as aerospace and defence, automotive and transport equipment, electrical and electronics, machinery and engineered products, and plastics and chemicals. Manufacturing is the largest industry in Greater Western Sydney valued, in 2005-06, at $15.5 billion, or 19 per cent of the region’s economy of $80 billion.

EOI called for an inland port at Enfield

Sydney Ports Corporation has called for expressions of interest from engineering consulting firms to assist with the design delivery of its $200 million plus Intermodal Logistics Centre, at Enfield. The aim of the centre, commonly called an inland port, is to help move containers onto rail. Some 85 per cent of the goods moved through Sydney Ports are packed and unpacked within metropolitan Sydney. At present, 21 per cent of these products are transported by rail. The target is to move 40 per cent of containers by rail to and from Port Botany. A significant proportion of these containers service the needs of inner and middle-western Sydney, which is the destination for between 50 to 60 per cent of all container imports and the source of up to 30 per cent of all container exports

Tenders called for council's major events

Parramatta City Council has called for tenders for the development of entertainment, infrastructure and concert management for two major events, namely, Australia Day and Riverbeats. The contract will be for three years, with two one-year extensions. Tenders close on June 3.

Glora Jeans Coffees wins an award

Gloria Jean’s Coffees, based in Castle Hill, will become the first Australian company to receive the Rainforest Alliance Corporate Green Globe Award, which will be presented to executive chairman, Nabi Saleh, in New York, on May 15. The award recognises the company’s work in supporting global sustainability in agriculture. The company is committed to a target of purchasing 85% of our coffee within the next three years from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms. Gloria Jeans Coffees purchased the US-based Gloria Jeans Coffees International operations in 2005. The company has 854 stores around the world. In 2006-07 the company's export sales grew by 638% compared to the previous year
