Shell unit out of production for four months

The catalytic cracking unit at Shell’s Clyde refinery, which is used to help produce Shell’s premium fuels, such as V-Power and premium unleaded, has broken down and will be out of operation for four months. Another unit, which produces diesel, is back online.

Last month, the Minister for Planning, Frank Sartor, approved an application for the removal and replacement of degraded equipment used to convert crude oil into petroleum and liquid petroleum gas. Shell; has on public exhibition an application to upgrade the existing hydrodesulphurisation unit to reduce the sulpher content in diesel from 50 parts per million to 10 parts per million.
